Lily Lake, Illinois, United States
Lily Lake Cemetery is a public cemetery, located in Lily Lake, Campton Township, Kane County, Illinois. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Kane County, the only cemetery within Lily Lake Village limits. In fact, the cemetery was here before Lily Lake was a Village, when the area was known as Canada Corners. The Cemetery was first called Canada Corners Cemetery, then Campton Cemetery and in 1904 it was renamed, Lily Lake Cemetery. It’s the resting place of many veterans, including World War I and II, The Civil War and The Revolutionary War. Abner Powers was laid to rest here in September of 1852 at the age of 91. He served in the battles of Bennington, Saratoga, Valley Forge and Yorktown. Corporal Abner Powers has a 30 foot Vermont granite obelisk monument that was dedicated to him on July 4, 1902. The cemetery is independently owned and operated by the board and trustees of, The Lily Lake Cemetery Association, a volunteer organization that maintains the grounds and operations of the cemetery with welcomed donations.
